How the Wave works — in a few questions.

FreeWillWave is an unprecedented global attempt to make the human choice for freedom visible. This page answers the most common questions, in plain language.

  • What is FreeWillWave?

An unprecedented global attempt to make the human choice for freedom visible. Every human is invited to answer for themselves: to choose freedom for oneself — and to respect that same freedom in others. Each answer joins a worldwide count, and its author receives a permanent Free Human number. The Wave that emerges is a consequence of the experiment, not its starting point.

  • What does it mean to join?

You sign a short Declaration — summed up as: I am free · I take responsibility for myself · I respect others (a summary, not the exact text) — and you receive a permanent Free Human number: your place in the group. It's belonging without surrendering your freedom, and you can leave whenever you want.

  • How do I join?

Open an invitation link or freewillwave.com, enter your name and email, and confirm with the 6-digit code we send you. The moment your email is confirmed, your number is yours. No password, no payment.

  • I didn't get my 6-digit code — what now?

The code usually arrives in under a minute. If it doesn't, check your spam folder (sometimes "Promotions" too). Still nothing? Request a new code from the sign-in page — each new send replaces the previous one. If two tries come up empty, write to admin@freewillwave.com.

  • What if I close the page mid-signup?

You can pick up where you left off. Come back to the same invitation link (or freewillwave.com), enter the same email — a new code goes out automatically. No number is consumed until your email is confirmed; if you don't finish, nothing is assigned and you can start over with no worries.

  • What is the Free Human number?

A sequential, permanent number — one per person, in order of arrival. It's assigned the moment you confirm your email and is never reassigned. The earlier you join, the lower and rarer it is.

  • What can I do every day?

Plenty, at your own pace. From The Wave, send energy to the group — a press-and-hold gesture of intention, repeatable a few times a day; the world map lights up where it comes from. From Me, share your link to invite someone and grow the group, or place a backlink to FreeWillWave from your site. Follow the Biathlon, the daily ranking of invitations and backlinks. And you can simply watch the Wave grow — the map, today's energy, the pulse, the Story. Nothing is required: every gesture is symbolic, a way of saying "I'm here, with you."

  • What's the difference between The Wave and Participate?

The Wave answers "what is the group living right now?" — the map, the daily energy, the pulse, the Story. Participate answers "what can I do?" — send energy, invite, place a backlink, follow the Biathlon, support. Same heart, two doors.

  • Do I have to choose between Inviter, Funder and Backlinker?

No — these are labels derived from what you do: bring people = Inviter, support the project = Funder, link to FreeWillWave from your site = Backlinker. You can be one, several, or none, and it changes over time. There's no role to pick.

  • How does the Wave grow?

FreeWillWave grows all the time. On top of that, a Fibonacci relay (1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21…) runs once a month: it opens on the first day of the month, and while it is active the chain advances each day by the next number — carried first by real invitations, then from the reserve. If a step can't be filled, the monthly relay pauses. The first monthly Wave opens August 1, 2026.

  • What is the reserve?

One list of everyone who has joined but isn't yet in the chain, ordered by validated invitations + backlinks, with the earliest signup as tie-break. When a daily slot isn't filled by an invitation, it's drawn from the top of this list — and the same list is the public ranking.

  • What is the Biathlon?

A daily two-discipline ranking — Inviter (invitations brought) and Backlinker (backlinks placed) — snapshotted every 11:23 UTC. There's a monthly cumulative board, per-country rankings, and badges that unlock as you pass milestones. Money is never a ranking factor.

  • Can the Wave pause?

Yes. If a day can't complete — no one invited AND the reserve is empty — the next bascule doesn't fire. The countdown becomes "The wave is waiting — N humans needed to resume," and everyone is notified by email. No shaming, ever.

  • Is it free? Can I support it?

Joining, and everything that matters, is free and stays free — support never buys rank, advantage, or a better number. If you want, you can give voluntary support to help cover the running costs (emails, hosting, the experiment itself).

  • What do you do with my data?

As little as possible. Your email is your sign-in key and stays private. Your country is only what you declare — we never read your IP. No profile photos, no private messaging, nothing sold. FreeWillWave is a registry, not a social network.

  • In which language can I use the site?

The interface is available in 15 languages — switch any time from the language menu, which also sets the language of your emails. Separately, you can declare your own primary language; it only ever appears as a world-wide aggregate, never on your profile.

  • How do I edit my profile or change my email?

On /settings you can set a display name, a short bio (80–120 characters), up to 5 links, your country, and your interface language. You can also attach or change the email you sign in with.

  • Can I leave or delete my account?

Yes — deletion is immediate and self-serve from /settings. It removes your login and erases or neutralises your direct personal information. Your permanent Free Human number and a minimal, pseudonymised structural place may remain so the chain stays whole — never used to contact or publicly identify you; some payment records may be kept where the law requires it. The number is never reassigned, and a new account won't reclaim it.
