The Wave surpasses 9,000 presences and learns to sustain its momentum
Monday, August 24, 2026, the reading is frozen at 22:00 UTC. The day was not over: the figures that follow therefore describe a 22-hour window, not the final total for the day.
After the change of scale described yesterday in When the Wave spreads by hundreds, then by thousands, FreeWillWave has not fallen back into silence. The Wave continued to advance: 1,120 new presences took their place, seven countries appeared on the map, and the 9,000 Free Humans mark was crossed.
What strikes me today is this mix between human momentum and adjustment work. On one side, hundreds of people continue to invite, to send energy, to circulate the idea. On the other, I spent the day making the experience clearer, more reliable, and fairer for the people arriving now.

After the big wave, the movement continues
The day before, FreeWillWave had experienced an extraordinary day. The risk, after such a Sunday, would have been to view Monday as a mere drop-off. That is not what the facts say: between 00:00 and 22:00 UTC, 1,120 more humans took their place, and 1,118 of them arrived by invitation.
This means that the transmission seen on Sunday did not stop at the first shock. It continues to pass from person to person. At 22:00 UTC, 501 different humans had invited at least someone in the window. This number matters because it shows that the Wave does not depend on a single passage, nor on a single visible person: it advances because many modest gestures add up.
Two milestones keep the trace of this day. At 01:32 UTC, #8000 Lawal Abdullahi DKM (Nigeria) became the 8,000th Free Human. At 19:41 UTC, #9000 Ibrahim Dayyabu (Nigeria) took the 9,000th place. At the time of the reading, the last recorded presence was #9059 Shamsu Shehu (Nigeria), at 21:59 UTC.
Nigeria again carried a large share of the day, with 956 new presences in the window. Niger counted 38, France 20, the Netherlands 10, Cameroon 10, and the United States 9. These movements can be followed on the Wave map, and the figures remain viewable in the Wave in numbers.
Seven more countries on the map
Seven countries lit up for the first time: South Korea at 00:21 UTC, Portugal at 03:48, Sierra Leone at 03:58, Mongolia at 06:18, Sudan at 09:15, Seychelles at 13:38, then Guatemala at 21:59.
There is something very simple in this list, but also very powerful. Before this day, these countries did not yet appear in FreeWillWave. After this day, a first presence exists there. A map changes color, but above all a possibility opens up: someone, somewhere, can now show the Wave from that place.
This movement extends what had begun with The film becomes the front door, and 12 countries light up. In a few days, the map has ceased to be only a state of play. It has become a memory of successive passages: one country lights up, then another, then yet another.

| Last presence at the reading | #9059 Shamsu Shehu (Nigeria), at 21:59 UTC |

Invitations and energies remain very much alive
Invitations continued to make the Wave grow. In the window, #805 Chizo1germany (Germany) has 198 direct invitations, #7987 Younoussa Kalla maillafïa dit moussa (Niger) has 34, and #1884 Social juwara (Nigeria) has 20.
Since the opening, #805 Chizo1germany (Germany) now reaches 3,525 direct invitations. #2029 Nura USMAN MUSA (Nigeria) has 171, and #869 Ibrahim Sani (Nigeria) 149. Thanks to them, and thanks to the hundreds of other people who opened a passage today, even just once.
Energies were also very present: 3,830 gestures in the window, sent by 428 different people. Nigeria accounts for 3,130, Niger 216, France 121. Since the opening, 13,472 energies have been sent.
In the window, the people most active on energies are #3377 Babayo Haruna (Nigeria), with 230 energies, #5453 Sadik Goni (Nigeria), with 200, and #5641 Abdurrashid Kabir (Nigeria), with 161. Since the opening, the most active are #514 Agba R (Kuwait), #486 Musa Muhammad (Nigeria) and #443 Faharu Muhammad (Nigeria).
On the support side, the trace remains the same since the opening: thanks to #79 Oddur Tom (Australia), for the first recorded support of $5. The Support the project page remains open for those who want to help FreeWillWave continue.
Making the Wave clearer for those arriving
The day was also a day of visible adjustments. Not to add complications, but to remove small confusions that, at large scale, can bother many people.
The invitation arrival page now displays the name of the person who will actually be credited. Before, some invited people could see a banner saying that the invitation came from me, even when the attribution was correct elsewhere. Nothing was lost in the lineage, but the welcome did not say the same thing as the real gesture. This is corrected: the name shown must be the name that corresponds to the invitation.
On phone and tablet, the information banner moves back to the top, but it remains visible during scrolling. It therefore no longer disappears as soon as the page moves. The messages related to the album The Wave now look like real doors: listening to the album leads to the music page, and downloading the album leads to the space intended for Free Humans.
I also unified the colors of visible events: energy, arrivals, and support each have their own role, in the same way everywhere. This may seem small, but it is exactly the kind of detail that helps a person quickly understand what they see, especially when arrivals and energies happen live.
A new energy animation has also entered the Wave: two golden horses appear on the map. The team thanks Nigeria for this new animation, on a day when Nigeria again carried much of the movement. And to avoid inconsistencies, the clip of the day is now decided in the right place: a person should not see an old animation simply because another tab remained open somewhere.
Holding on when it grows
Sunday's growth showed things that are not visible when everything moves slowly. Rankings that seemed light became heavy to recalculate. Overlays that were beautiful on the map became bothersome when reading the graph or the list. A video could remain smooth in one place and freeze elsewhere on certain devices.
I therefore corrected several points on the experience side. Rankings and ranks load much more cleanly for the pages that display them. Ties are broken in a stable way: for people as for countries, seniority now serves as the reference when the number is identical. Public profiles also show a fairer overall impact, taking into account the full invitation lineage, not only direct invitations.
On the Wave map, live animations now stay in their place: on the map. They no longer cover the graph or the list when someone tries to read. Sending energy also becomes more robust: if a tap gets lost along the way, the orb retries once by itself, and errors can be understood instead of turning into an opaque message.
I finally removed the remaining X and Reddit advertising markers, along with the privacy phrases that declared them. This is the logical continuation of Stopping advertising to better explain the experience: if a tool is no longer used, it must not remain attached to the pages, nor in the legal text.
So this day did not only add 1,120 presences in 22 hours. It also made FreeWillWave more capable of welcoming what is coming: clearer pages, more reliable gestures, a more readable map, a more honest invitation, easier-to-find music.
The reading stops at 22:00 UTC, and the day was still continuing. The next page will be built with the humans who take their place, those who pass on the experience film, those who send energy, propose an idea via the messaging, listen to the album, support the project, or simply show someone that the Wave already exists.
