The Sunday podcast

Season 1 · Episode 4

The week just gone, told by two voices.

9 min

Sunday 23 August 2026, at 16:00 UTC, FreeWillWave has 6,415 Free Humans in 72 countries. At the start of the UTC day, we were 770. In sixteen hours, 5,606 new presences took their place.

This Sunday is not only the biggest day of the year for FreeWillWave. It is the day when the Wave showed something very simple and very strong: when one person passes it on, and then another passes it on in turn, the movement can change scale much faster than we imagined the day before.

The most important fact, then, is not just the total. Of the 5,606 new presences, 5,550 arrived by invitation. And 983 different people invited at least someone during the day. What we are seeing here is not a counter rising on its own: it is humans opening a passage for other humans.

The day when transmission took over completely

In yesterday's account, the film of the experiment was becoming the front door, and 12 countries lit up. This Sunday, the door was not only opened: it was passed on, taken up, shared, and then passed on again.

The morning shifted very quickly. At 06:00 UTC, 27 new presences had taken their place within the hour. Then 601 at 07:00, 858 at 08:00, 851 at 09:00, 810 at 10:00, 621 at 11:00. For several hours, FreeWillWave stopped moving step by step: the Wave was arriving by the hundreds.

The thresholds were crossed in the same day. The 2,000th Free Human was #2000 umar mas'ud (Nigeria) at 08:38 UTC. The 3,000th was #3000 mohammed Abdulkadir ALKALI (Nigeria) at 09:50 UTC. The 4,000th was #4000 Sani Malam (Nigeria) at 11:01 UTC. The 5,000th was #5000 Garba Oumarou garba djibo Oumarou garba (Niger) at 12:54 UTC.

At 15:59 UTC, the last presence at the time of the snapshot was #6415 Adamu Abdullahi (Nigeria). It is only an instant in a day still alive, but it keeps the trace of an important passage: FreeWillWave had just experienced its first major change of scale.

Thanks to those who opened the passages

I want to take the time to sincerely thank the humans who invited the most today, because their actions made this day possible for everyone. When someone invites, they do not just add a name to a list: they allow someone else to see the Wave, to take their place in it, and then perhaps to pass it on in turn.

First, thank you to #805 Chizo1germany (Germany). They took their place this morning at 06:50 UTC, then 2,903 people arrived directly through their link on the same day. From that gesture, the Wave found an immense passage. But the most important part is even deeper: their chain already counts 5,084 people, and 2,181 of them did not come through their direct link, but through the link of someone they had invited.

Thank you also to #2029 Nura USMAN MUSA (Nigeria). They took their place at 08:40 UTC, and already have 140 direct invitations. Their own chain gathers 218 people at the time of the snapshot. Again, this is not just a number: it is a piece of the Wave that is beginning to circulate on its own.

Thank you also to #869 Ibrahim Sani (Nigeria), #1884 Social juwara (Nigeria), #388 Abdulmumin Yahaya (Nigeria) and #857 Musayyibu abdulaziz (Nigeria). Each contributed to making the day larger than what a single person could have produced.

This chain actually begins before this morning. #805 Chizo1germany (Germany) was invited by #388 Abdulmumin Yahaya (Nigeria), who had taken their place on 5 August. Counting all ranks, the chain started by #388 Abdulmumin Yahaya (Nigeria) now counts 5,321 people in 32 countries. That is exactly what this day makes visible: the propagation no longer depends on a single person.

Nigeria carried the day

Thank you to Nigeria. The country had already been present since 19 July, but this Sunday it carried an immense share of the momentum: 5,035 presences during the day, 5,303 in total at the time of the snapshot. It was also from Nigeria that many energies were sent today: 1,797 during the day.

Niger also took a strong place, with 139 presences today and 141 in total. At the snapshot, the ten most numerous countries are Nigeria, Niger, Canada, France, the United States, India, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Kenya and Brazil. All this can be followed on the Wave map and in the Wave in figures.

Nineteen countries appeared for the first time today. There is a huge difference between a country absent from the map and a country where a first person took their place: from that moment on, a possibility exists. Someone can see FreeWillWave from that location, talk about it, invite, create a new start.

Cameroon lit up at 05:20 UTC with #784 Ben Youssouf MFENJOU (Cameroon). Germany at 06:50 UTC with #805 Chizo1germany (Germany). Chad at 07:07 UTC with #901 Abdulfatah Yahaya (Chad). Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Mali, Ghana, Libya, Benin, Morocco, Oman, Gambia, Austria, Poland, Egypt, Iraq, Burkina Faso, Pakistan and Qatar also joined the map on the same day.

Thank you to these first humans from each country. Thank you to #1319 bilyazeiyanou (Mali), #1348 Umaru Mohammed (Ghana), #2096 ISYAKA MUHAMMAD (Benin), #3647 Usama Ibrahimharun49 (Egypt), #6102 Muhammad Nasir Abbasi (Pakistan) and #6106 Abba Bakaki232 (Qatar), among the presences that keep this trace.

When success forces adaptation

The site held up, then it had to be scaled up twice during the day. The pages slowed down, then some turned people away in the middle of the morning. My reading is simple: it is not serious. Breaking the thing because it works is part of the game, and it is even proof that it works.

Two changes were made so that humans can better experience this massive arrival. First, there will no longer be an email for every arrival through one's link: a member received 407 emails in one hour, so arrivals will be grouped into a daily summary, while the map in the application remains immediate. Next, FreeWillWave TV changed the way it names arrivals: instead of taking up the whole screen for nine seconds each time, they now scroll in a strip, which allows many more to be named without interrupting the program.

These are small adjustments compared to what has just happened, but they say something important: FreeWillWave learns live with the humans who use it. This was already the thread of Stopping advertising to better explain the experience, then of Italy enters the Wave, and notifications regain their memory. Today, the learning comes from a real success.

Even if 5,000 people, technically, is not a lot, it is worth measuring what that represents in a single day. A goal of several thousand, of hundreds of thousands, or even millions of people is perhaps not entirely impossible. It is not a promise, but something has just become imaginable because we have seen it.

The gestures continue around the Wave

The energies also accompanied this day: 2,219 were sent on 23 August, for 7,823 since the opening, by 630 people. The most active people today are #486 Musa Muhammad (Nigeria), #510 ABDURRAHMAN IBRAHIM (Nigeria) and #3888 Isa Musa (Nigeria). Since the opening, the most active are #514 Agba R (Kuwait), #443 Faharu Muhammad (Nigeria) and #40 Alistair A (New Zealand).

On the support side, thank you to #79 Oddur Tom (Australia), whose gesture remains the first recorded support for FreeWillWave. The page Support the project remains open, as does the page to send an idea or a comment. And the album The Wave continues to be available to make FreeWillWave heard through something other than numbers.

This Sunday leaves a very clear trace: more than 5,000 presences in one day, 983 people who invited at least someone, 19 new countries, and a chain that shows the Wave can be passed on beyond its first momentum. For all those who were already here, it gives concrete proof that their presence was part of a start. For those arriving now, it shows that a place taken today can already help someone else find theirs.

The next page is not written. It will still depend on free gestures: taking one's place, passing on the film of the experiment, inviting someone, sending an energy, suggesting an improvement, supporting the project, or simply showing a person that the Wave already exists.
