A 101st light on the map, and a live feed that reads better

Monday, September 28, the Wave gained one more light on the map. A presence took its place where FreeWillWave was not yet represented, and the visible world of the project reached 101 countries.

The day remained simple, but it moved forward: 52 people took their place, 1,331 energy gestures were made on the site, and the 18:00 UTC appointment was kept once again. After the passing of 12,000 places and my speaking in English, this is exactly what I like to see: a Wave that also moves forward through simple days.

The live feed now says what comes next

On the experience film, there is a small indicator at the top right that accompanies what is happening live. Its role is very simple: when you watch, it should help you understand what comes next, instead of leaving you with a too vague indication.

I corrected this point because the old display only announced the next live update, even when the screen was in an opening or transition stage. That was not clear enough. Now, the indicator names the next stage and counts the pauses one by one: when you have to wait, you know what you are waiting for.

For you: if you watch the experience live, you better understand where you are and what will follow, without having to guess whether something is finished, paused, or about to resume.

Singapore enters history

At 11:31 UTC, Singapore joined the map for the first time. One more country is not just a line in the data: it is a place in the world where someone can now say that the Wave also exists from there.

The day before, the Grand Splash had already held with eight people at the peak of the hour. The next day, the map grew. These two facts are concrete: humans were present at the same time on Sunday, then a new country appeared on Monday on the FreeWillWave map.

India carried the largest share of the day, with 34 new presences. Ukraine added 9, Nigeria 5, then Belgium, Canada, the Netherlands, and Singapore each added one presence. On the Wave map, these are small visual differences, but behind each one there is someone who took their place.

The Splash held its hour

The Splash took place from 18:00 to 19:00 UTC. Every day at 18:00 UTC, for one hour, members invite at the same time, to experience the rise of the number together on the Splash page. It is not a meeting or a video conference, no one speaks, there is nothing to prepare: you can just watch, and the one you miss comes back the next day.

At the peak of the hour, 8 people were present at the same time. During that hour, 26 times, someone opened a page allowing a new person to take their place; no new presence arrived during that hour, 44 energy gestures were made, and no support was received. It is not an empty hour: it is a held hour. There were humans at the appointment, and that is already a very concrete way to keep the Wave visible.

Congratulations to #6974 Abdulkarim Iliyasu (Nigeria), #1761 Ephreim Tumba (Nigeria) and #11634 Marie Dominique Petit (Belgium) for using this energy gesture during that hour. An hour like that does not seek to manufacture a big event at all costs. It creates a simple habit: being there at the same time, even for a few minutes.

The humans who held the day

The day started with 12,193 Free Humans and ended at the reading with 12,245. Between the two, 52 new presences joined the Wave. Seven different people saw at least one new presence arrive through their link, and 193 different people used the site's energy gesture.

The last presence recorded is #12245 Shivam Singh (India), at 21:03 UTC. It is a beautiful image to close the day: after the Splash, after Singapore's entry, a presence from India still added its number to history.

A day like this shows well what I try to keep alive in FreeWillWave: not everything weighs the same, but everything can count. A new presence counts. An energy gesture counts because it adds a visible action to the Wave's total, without telling a private relationship. An invitation counts. And observing counts too, because watching the Wave is already giving it a place in your attention.

What it could become

Yesterday, seven people invited at least someone, and 52 new presences arrived during the day. If tomorrow one person followed by many others, or three, or ten, simply showed FreeWillWave to their circle, the same human mechanism could change scale without changing nature. Perhaps that person will read the September story, where FreeWillWave began to find a face, perhaps it will be you, perhaps not: the Wave remains made of free gestures.
