A lighter day, and 162 humans keeping the Wave awake

Tuesday, September 29, seven people took their place in FreeWillWave. The public counter went from 12,245 to 12,252 Free Humans: that's seven more humans now appearing in the project's visible history, and five people enabled someone else to open the door.

The Wave sometimes continues like this, more gently, with simple gestures that remain visible. The day before, FreeWillWave had reached 101 countries represented on the map; this Tuesday didn't add a new country, but people still took their place, members still sent energy, and the 18:00 UTC appointment did take place.

Seven presences, and the map stays lit

The day started with 12,245 Free Humans. It ended at 12,252. In between, seven people took their place: five in Nigeria, one in India, one in Qatar.

It's not the kind of number that makes noise on its own. But it still tells something precious: even when the Wave slows down, it doesn't stop. Someone opens a link, someone looks, someone decides to appear on the map. And from that moment on, the person is no longer an abstract idea: they exist in FreeWillWave's visible history.

The last presence of the day is #12252 Suwaiba Hassan (Nigeria), at 19:16 UTC. An evening arrival, just after the Splash, like a quiet little proof that the day was still going on.

1,085 energy gestures sent by 162 people

On FreeWillWave, sending energy is a simple gesture displayed in the site's counters, alongside invitations and support. This Tuesday, that gesture was made 1,085 times by 162 different people. The number becomes easier to imagine like this: 162 humans took a moment to make that gesture on the site.

Since the opening, the cumulative total reaches 93,765 energies. That's a lot of small acts strung together. And what I like about this number is that it can't be manufactured by a single person: it exists because humans come back, sometimes often, sometimes once, each in their own way.

A few days ago, the Grand Splash had gathered eight people and 41 presences had kept the Wave moving. This Tuesday, fewer people took their place than some recent days, but 162 people still made a visible gesture in the Wave. The Philippines, Nigeria, and Niger appear among the countries that sent the most during the day, with a particularly strong presence from Nigeria.

The Splash kept its hour

Tuesday's Splash took place from 18:00 to 19:00 UTC on the daily appointment page. At the peak of the hour, 6 people were present at the same time. During that hour, an invitation page was opened 20 times, 40 energy gestures were sent, no one took their place during that hour, and no support was received.

For someone discovering it: the Splash is the hour when members invite at the same time and watch the Wave move together. It's not a meeting or a video conference, no one speaks, there's nothing to prepare; you can just watch, and the one you miss comes back the next day.

Bravo to #4737 Ligali Abdulrahman (Nigeria), to #1 Serge (Belgium) and to #5176 Efe Ogene (Nigeria) for the energies sent during that hour. Six people at the same time, it's not a crowd. But it's already an appointment that exists, and that repeats.

The humans who held the day

Tuesday's numbers fit in a few lines, but they deserve to be kept properly. We went from 12,245 to 12,252 Free Humans. Five different people invited at least someone. 162 people sent at least one energy. The map remains at 101 countries represented, and the details remain visible on the data page and on the Wave map.

Thank you to the five people who invited someone on Tuesday. Thank you to the 162 people who sent energy. Thank you also to those who simply watched, who came back, who opened the page without adding anything visible. Observing is already full participation.

There are days when FreeWillWave moves forward through a new country, a creation, or a big push. There are others when the essential is more discreet: keeping the thread, holding the appointment, leaving a door open. Tuesday is one of those days.

What it could become

On Tuesday, five people invited someone, and seven new presences took their place. If tomorrow one person with an audience, then three, then ten talked about FreeWillWave around them, the same gesture could simply change scale. No one has that obligation; each person can only decide whether they want to be one of those doors.

Tonight, we keep the appointment

The Wave is watched on the map, also listened to in the album The Wave, and can be supported here: freewillwave.com/fr/support. If you have an idea, a remark, or a door to open, you can send it here: freewillwave.com/fr/messages?sys=feedback. In the September story, I told how the month had slowed down and the way of presenting FreeWillWave had become clearer; Tuesday adds a simple day to that sequence. The next Splash takes place tonight at 18:00 UTC on the Splash page. Be there if you can.
