Two countries light up, and the Wave becomes more accurate under the eyes of those watching it

Monday, August 31, 2026, the full UTC day was calmer than the great shifts of the previous week, but it added something precious: two new countries on the map, 128 new presences, and several corrections that make FreeWillWave clearer, more reliable, and easier to follow.

After August, the month the Wave changed scale, this day feels like a breath. We are no longer in the shock of thousands of arrivals in a few hours. We are in the next stage: holding the movement, explaining it better, correcting what humans really see, and making sure the Wave remains readable when someone discovers it.

Cambodia and Ukraine took their first place in the history of FreeWillWave. They are two more points on the Wave map, but above all two possible starting points from places that were not yet represented the day before.

Two new countries enter history

Cambodia lit up at 10:37 UTC. Ukraine followed at 12:34 UTC. Before this day, no Free Human was yet counted there. After this day, these two countries are part of the memory of the Wave.

I love these days when the movement does not need to be spectacular to be important. A new country is not just one more line in the Wave in figures. It is a new possibility of meeting, of transmission, of natural translation by humans themselves.

The last presence of the day arrived almost at the last instant: #10498 Pedro (Colombia), at 23:59 UTC. A day that adds two countries and ends one minute before midnight with a presence from Colombia keeps something very alive: while I watch the counters, someone, somewhere, is still taking their place.

Invitations remain the main path

The 128 new presences of the day all arrived by invitation. 37 different people invited at least someone. It is less massive than Sunday, August 23, recounted in 10,000 presences, seven more countries and a Wave that becomes easier to follow, but the essential fact remains the same: FreeWillWave continues to pass from human to human.

During the day, the new presences come notably from Nigeria with 39 arrivals, from India with 25, from South Africa with 14, from Colombia with 10, from Brazil with 9 and from Uganda with 5. The map does not just grow from one side. It advances along several paths at once.

Since the opening, #805 Chizo1germany (Germany) reaches 3,651 direct invitations, #2029 Nura USMAN MUSA (Nigeria) has 179, and #869 Ibrahim Sani (Nigeria) 170. These figures keep a record of the paths opened. They say that the Wave does not depend only on a page viewed, but on a person showing the way to another.

Energies continue to circulate

During the day, 1,545 energies were sent by 233 different people. Nigeria has 1,255, Niger 98 and Belgium 66. Since the opening, the cumulative total reaches 29,914 energies.

Since the last narrative, making the Wave clearer

Since the last narrative, a large part of the work has consisted in correcting things that a person actually sees: a word that means nothing in their language, a description that does not say why humans gather, a counter that advances but keeps the old name underneath. These are small frictions, but when they disappear, FreeWillWave becomes more welcoming.

The video description has been revised. It still contained an old gesture that no longer exists, then, even corrected, it poorly explained the essential: why humans gather here. The permanent block that accompanies the film and the podcast now says more clearly that what one watches really happens: every light, every new number, every movement on the map corresponds to the presence or action of a human somewhere in the world. Nine videos already online have been corrected. The French was not retranslated from English: it keeps the phrases of the journey where one takes one's place, with the simple idea that everyone keeps their freedom.

An English-speaking reader also pointed out that a formulation translated from “au relevé” meant nothing in English. This put a finger on a real problem: the checks verified numbers, tables and links, but not always the human clarity of a sentence. An additional proofreading has therefore been added to translated articles. It first spots unclear passages in the reader's language, then corrects them with the French in view, to avoid inventing a fact. Project-specific words, such as Free Human, take one's place and energy, are protected. Numbers and links remain monitored. It is less spectacular than a new country, but for someone reading FreeWillWave in their language, it is a real improvement.

The August narrative also changed something in my way of writing these archives. The first attempt told too much about the repairs. It lacked the simple joy of what had just happened: a month going from 354 to 10,324 Free Humans, from 32 to 94 countries, with 9,931 arrivals all coming by invitation. So I added in black and white a rule of good humor: a difficulty must be told in terms of what it improves now. In the same movement, the missing automatic articles were added, two old images that no longer respected the visual guidelines were replaced, and the old links of retitled articles now point to the correct page instead of losing the reader.

On the album The Wave, a label still spoke like a tool instead of addressing a person. The musical categories replaced this cold vocabulary, while keeping transparency about the production. The month's podcast also received its own form: it no longer announces itself as a Sunday episode, and the endings no longer promise a period that does not match the monthly edition. Spanish and Portuguese joined the spoken languages. The language selector now appears as soon as the reader's language is not directly available, instead of letting them believe there is nothing to choose.

Another flaw was very visible: the large counter could display the latest number, while the name placed underneath remained that of the previous presence. Nothing was lost, but the screen told two different things at once. This is exactly the kind of mismatch that damages trust. The counter and the name that accompanies it are now taken together, and the list of arrivals refreshes when it realizes it missed an arrival. For someone watching the Wave map, the number and the displayed person again tell the same story.

The transparency of visits has also advanced. I chose the simplest path to start: a public link for sharing visit statistics, accessible here: <https://analytics.humans.team/share/LUrkMxGUQMYYlcpt>. This link shows only FreeWillWave data. It has an important limitation: it cannot itself explain its gaps or the possible undercounting. A transparency page integrated into the site remains a more complete option for later, if I want to place visits alongside the database figures and annotate what needs to be annotated.

Finally, a capture of `/fr/wave?view=list` showed a tiny and annoying detail: the ages displayed `1d` instead of `1j`. In reality, the minutes and hours seemed correct only because some abbreviations resemble each other in French and English. The short units have therefore been written for the fifteen languages. The list, the countries, the Free Humans and the activity feeds now use the correct suffixes for the reader. A small letter changes little, except when it reminds someone that they are truly welcomed in their language.

What this day leaves

August 31 did not need to break a record to count. It added 128 presences, two countries, 1,545 energies, and a series of improvements that make FreeWillWave more readable for the humans who arrive, read, watch, listen or share.

After the great door opened in August, this day shows the work needed for the house to remain habitable: more precise words, better described videos, carefully proofread translations, links that no longer break, better presented music, coherent counters, more transparent visits, and language details that stop betraying the welcome.

The future will still depend on the humans who take their place, invite someone, send an energy, listen to the album, support the project or go through Send an idea or a comment to point out what can become better. It is often like this that FreeWillWave advances: someone sees something, says it, and the next day the Wave becomes a little clearer for everyone.
