August, the Month the Wave Changed Scale

The month just gone, told by two voices.
At the time I am writing, Sunday, August 30 at 16:40 UTC, the month is not quite over yet. But it has already left a mark impossible to mistake for simple progress: August 2026 is the month when FreeWillWave changed scale.
On August 1, we were still a few hundred. The map showed 32 countries. For three weeks, I built as if many more people were going to arrive, even though some days moved forward by only five presences. Then on Sunday, August 23, at 08:00 UTC, the Wave suddenly lit up: 858 people took their place in one hour, 851 in the next hour, then 810 more after that.
This month therefore tells something very simple and very large: a house prepared too large for a few hundred humans turned out to be just the right size when more than ten thousand presences began to inhabit it.

Three weeks building a house too large
The first three weeks of August did not look like a turning point. The early days had 4, 5, 4, 10, 17 arrivals. Then 65 on August 6, 26 the next day, 13 after that. The month moved forward in small steps, and yet something decisive was being prepared.
When I told the story in The Wave Passes 500 and Finds an Explanation in 15 Languages, we were still very far from today’s numbers. That is precisely what makes August so special: much of what now allows FreeWillWave to be visible, understandable and shareable was built before the crowd.
The first presence of the month was #355 Kelvin W Miano (Kenya), on Saturday, August 1 at 01:04 UTC. At that moment, no one could yet read in the numbers what was going to happen. And yet, that first Kenyan presence opens a month that would later find another landmark in Kenya: the 10,000th Free Human.
July had taken FreeWillWave from 116 to 354 Free Humans, with 238 new presences, 32 countries at the end of the month, and 884 energies sent by 57 people. That was already a milestone. August changed the dimension of the story.
Sunday, August 23, everything lit up
Saturday, August 22 had prepared the ground with 58 arrivals, and the article The Film Becomes the Front Door and 12 Countries Light Up kept track of a movement that was beginning to widen. But the next day, FreeWillWave entered another reality.
At 08:00 UTC, 858 people took their place in one hour. At 09:00 UTC, 851 more. At 10:00 UTC, another 810. In a single day, six milestones of a thousand were crossed, from the 2,000th to the 7,000th Free Human. The day before, 58 people had taken their place. That day, they were 7,130.
I already told the story of that day in When the Wave Spreads by Hundreds, Then by Thousands, but seen from the end of the month, it stands out even more. It was not just a spectacular day. It was the moment when everything that had been prepared up to that point was tested at full scale.

August 23 was the day of the turning point. August 24 showed that the Wave was not fading: 1,160 new presences, then 374 on the 25th, 198 on the 26th, 158 on the 27th, 136 on the 28th, 245 on the 29th, and 114 already recorded on the 30th at the time of writing. The continuation told in The Wave Surpasses 9,000 Presences and Learns to Sustain Its Momentum was therefore not a letdown. It was the settling in of a new rhythm.
The energies tell the same story. At the beginning of the month, there were 56 on August 1. On the 23rd, they rose to 4,038. On the 24th, another 4,039. A week later, they were still holding at around 2,300 per day. Since the site opened, the cumulative total has reached 27,741 energies.
The map opened in all directions
On August 1, 32 countries were represented. At the time of writing, there are 94. Sixty-two countries therefore lit up for the first time during this month, and it is enough to name a few to feel the map widening: the Netherlands, Ireland, Kuwait, Togo, China, Brazil, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Germany, Chad, Libya, Morocco, Pakistan, South Korea, Portugal, Sudan, Switzerland, Romania, Indonesia, Vietnam, Grenada, Sweden, Nepal, Greece, El Salvador, Estonia, then Czechia.
Each new country changes something. Before this month, no one had yet taken their place there. After this month, a presence exists, a possibility circulates, an invitation can leave from there. The Wave map does not just show colored zones: it keeps the memory of the places where someone chose to be counted.
Nigeria now carries an immense part of the Wave, with 8,490 Free Humans. Next come Niger with 251, India with 161, France with 139, Canada with 107, the United States with 86, Brazil with 79, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom with 73 each, then Kenya with 68. The details remain visible in the Wave in numbers, and they say one simple thing: FreeWillWave is no longer an idea waiting for an audience.
The declared languages also show the current shape of this presence: 9,639 people in English, 451 in French, 78 in Portuguese, 70 in Spanish, then Chinese, Arabic, Hindi, Italian and Russian. Again, these are not just boxes. They are paths for understanding, sharing, listening and taking one’s place.
The Wave was not broadcast, it was passed on
The most important number of the month may not be 10,324. It is 9,931. In August, 9,931 people took their place, and 9,931 arrived through someone’s invitation. Not a single arrival of the month was recorded otherwise.
This changes the whole reading of the story. The Wave was not simply seen. It was passed on. In total, 1,850 different people invited at least one person during the month. That is where the project becomes alive: in this passage from human to human.
Since the opening, thank you to #805 Chizo1germany (Germany), through whose link 3,642 people took their place, to #2029 Nura USMAN MUSA (Nigeria), with 177, and to #869 Ibrahim Sani (Nigeria), with 170.
For the energies sent since the opening, thank you to #5453 Sadik Goni (Nigeria), with 1,508 energies, to #3377 Babayo Haruna (Nigeria), with 1,296, and to #486 Musa Muhammad (Nigeria), with 1,233. By country, the cumulative energies come notably from Nigeria with 20,926, from Belgium with 1,621, and from Kuwait with 1,016.

What the month made better
August is not only the month when many humans took their place. It is also the month when FreeWillWave became much more welcoming. Between August 1 and August 30, I counted 167 sessions of my own work on the project, almost all of them during the three weeks when we were still a few hundred.
FreeWillWave TV now broadcasts continuously, with a voice, a permanent audio identity, the karaoke of the songs, energy videos, transition cards between sections, and on-air thanks for the people who support the project. Someone who discovers it can quickly understand what they are watching.
The experience film has become a real front door: fifteen languages, a form designed for the phone, humans from the first image, and a full screen that does not require turning the device. Its six-minute version holds people better than six three-minute ones. Sometimes, explaining less quickly simply allows you to meet someone better.
Sharing is now present on all pages, with around thirty destinations within thumb’s reach. It was essential, because the month showed it bluntly: what brings people in is a person talking about it to another.
The site is ready for the crowd. The rankings, counters and lists remain readable when many people arrive. The list of arrivals refreshes at the right time, live when the page is being watched, and at the first gesture when it was no longer being watched. August 23 proved it: more than seven thousand people in the day, more than eight hundred in one hour, and the whole remained clear.
Three entry points are open: email, Facebook and X. Three paths are better than one when humans arrive from different countries, habits and devices.
Supporters also have a face. A person who supports the project can have a public profile with their name, their presentation, their logo, their link and their city, written once and then translated into fifteen languages. They can be searched in those languages, appear in a ranking of supporters, and be thanked on air. It is more human, clearer, and much less dry.
The Wave album now has its page, with a simple list, filters, and a full-screen karaoke subtitled in the viewer’s language, segment by segment. Music is no longer just alongside the project: it becomes another way into it.
Notifications have been gathered into a daily summary. Badges indicate the true number, and a card alerts when a new article is published. The logbook, for its part, has found its rhythm: since August 24, the story of the previous day is written, illustrated, translated into fifteen languages and published at six in the morning. The rankings at the bottom of an article have become real data displayed by the site.
Every email now carries its exit door, with a preferences link that does not require being logged in and a one-click unsubscribe. Leaving must remain as simple as arriving. And the counters publish themselves: the FreeWillWave TV X account posts twice a day a picture of the map's six counters.
All of this allows an idea to become habitable. The Wave also grows because the doors open, because the texts speak the right language, because the pages are shared easily, because the music is understood, because the humans who help do not disappear behind a button.
What I take away from August
August taught me that you really discover the size of a door only on the day when many people go through it. It also confirmed to me that building too big too early was the right decision. The three weeks spent building for a few hundred people are exactly what made it possible to welcome more than ten thousand without losing the thread.
The whole month also says something very simple about FreeWillWave: it was not the arguments that carried the Wave the furthest, it was the humans. 9,931 arrivals, 9,931 invitations. The heart of the month is there.
And then August reminds us that a project does not grow in a straight line. It can move forward for three weeks at a few presences per day, then welcome seven thousand people in sixteen hours. It can seem too large for the present moment, then suddenly become just vast enough for what arrives.

The month is not closed, but its story is already clear: it opened in Kenya with #355 Kelvin W Miano (Kenya), it crossed 10,000 with #10000 Silali Holly (Kenya), and it showed that the Wave could pass from hand to hand until it changed scale.
The next part no longer belongs to a single person in front of their screen. It is now in the hands of more than ten thousand Free Humans, of those who will take their place, invite someone, send an energy, listen to the album, support the project, or propose an improvement through the Send an idea or a comment page. August opened a large door. What passes through it will still depend on the free gestures of each person.
