10,000 presences, seven more countries and a Wave that becomes easier to follow

Saturday, August 29, 2026, the UTC day is complete. After the calmer day described in The Wave advances more gently and makes supporters visible in fifteen languages, FreeWillWave crossed a threshold that is very easy to read and very pleasant to write: we passed 10,000 Free Humans.

The day began with 9,965 presences and ended with 10,210. In between, 245 humans took their place, all through invitation. And while that threshold was being crossed, seven countries lit up for the first time: Vietnam, Grenada, Sweden, Nepal, Greece, El Salvador, and Estonia.

This August 29 therefore tells two things at once. On one side, the Wave continues to pass from person to person. On the other, I worked on very concrete doors: an ad that finally needed something to click, a karaoke that speaks the language of the viewer, and a list of arrivals that no longer stays frozen in the past.

The 10,000 threshold is crossed

At 03:53 UTC, #10000 Silali Holly (Kenya) took the 10,000th place in FreeWillWave. A round number does not change everything by itself, but it keeps a trace. It says that an idea that started from a few presences has become visible enough to be carried by ten thousand humans.

This threshold comes after several days when the Wave had to learn to sustain its momentum, as I described in The Wave surpasses 9,000 presences and learns to sustain its momentum. It is not just a line crossed on a counter. It is an accumulation of open passages, sent invitations, people who look, understand, then freely choose to take their place.

The last presence of the day is #10210 hajomi midnight (Nigeria), at 23:58 UTC. I like these end-of-day arrivals almost at the last minute: they remind us that the Wave does not move according to an office schedule. Someone arrives, somewhere, and the map changes a little more.

Seven new countries on the map

The map also changed scale. Seven countries entered the history of FreeWillWave during the day, and some almost back to back. Vietnam opened the movement at 00:15 UTC. Grenada followed at 01:51 UTC. Then, within one minute, Sweden and Nepal were added, at 05:35 and 05:36 UTC.

Later, Greece appeared at 10:33 UTC, El Salvador at 15:33 UTC, then Estonia at 18:06 UTC. Before this day, these countries were not yet represented. After this day, they are part of the memory of the Wave. It is little on a screen, a new dot, a new color, but it means a lot for the story: one more possibility now exists from each of these places.

Progress remains visible on the map of the Wave, and the totals can be followed in the Wave in figures. These pages become more valuable as countries are added: they show that FreeWillWave is not an idea suspended in a void, but a presence that truly lands on the map.

Invitations and energies continue to carry the movement

The 245 new presences of the day all arrived by invitation. 61 different people invited at least one person. Nigeria had 102 new presences, India 44, Kenya 18, South Africa 12, Uganda 8, and Malaysia 5. These figures keep a simple memory: growth does not come from a single place, even when some countries carry the movement more.

During the day, thank you to #9824 Sanusi Ajiya (Nigeria), with 25 direct invitations, to #805 Chizo1germany (Germany), with 7, and to #869 Ibrahim Sani (Nigeria), also with 7. Since opening, #805 Chizo1germany (Germany) reaches 3,638 direct invitations, #2029 Nura USMAN MUSA (Nigeria) has 176, and #869 Ibrahim Sani (Nigeria) has 170.

Energies also remain very much alive: 2,312 gestures during the day, sent by 292 different people. Nigeria accounts for 2,030, Belgium 77, and Niger 44. Since opening, the cumulative total reaches 26,589 energies.

During the day, thank you to #5453 Sadik Goni (Nigeria), with 205 energies, to #3377 Babayo Haruna (Nigeria), with 187, and to #9166 Sunusi Mande (Nigeria), with 102. Since opening, #5453 Sadik Goni (Nigeria) reaches 1,411 energies, #486 Musa Muhammad (Nigeria) has 1,203, and #3377 Babayo Haruna (Nigeria) has 1,176.

What I built so the Wave can be seen more clearly

The first correction of the day made me smile once the surprise passed: the ad running on X was performing very well, but it simply had nothing to click. The impressions and video views were there, the audience saw the message, but the promoted post did not contain a real door to FreeWillWave. So the problem was not that nobody wanted to come; the problem was much simpler and a little embarrassing: we were showing a door without a handle.

So I cut the old ad and rebuilt a complete campaign, this time with a clickable video card. The displayed title is “Take your place in a human world”, with a link to `freewillwave.com/join?utm_source=x&utm_campaign=almost10k`. The previous campaign mainly sought video views; the new one is designed to bring visits. This is a very concrete difference for someone discovering FreeWillWave: after seeing the short film, they can really click somewhere and continue the journey.

The second project concerned the album The Wave, and more specifically the karaoke. The lyrics already existed in several languages, but they had been translated as texts to read. For karaoke, that is not enough: a phrase must appear at the right moment, on the right line, with the right breath. So I reworked the lyrics into timed segments, so that the displayed subtitle corresponds to the line being sung, and so that an old translation does not stay stuck to a new segmentation if the timing changes.

The karaoke now subtitles in the language of the viewer, except in English when there is nothing to translate. I also adjusted its shape: the activity dots are at the very bottom, the subtitle takes the place of a real film subtitle, and the English lines stay centered in the available space. Even right-to-left languages were taken into account. This is exactly the kind of adjustment that makes no noise when it works, but makes the experience much more natural.

The live line of the karaoke was also dressed like the on-air display: flag, name, number, then the gesture in a small badge. The human appears first, the gesture next. Along the way, I fixed a defect that made some badges anonymous even though the identity was available. Now, when an event appears in this scene, it can be understood without guessing. And since two stacked lines made the whole thing too cluttered, the new one replaces the old one: a single live line at a time, more readable, calmer.

One last touch on this scene: when a badge appeared, all the texts moved up by about twenty pixels. That is the kind of small visual jump that ends up tiring the eye. I reserved the necessary space once and for all, so that the subtitle and the line being sung stay stable during events. A scene that sings must move by intention, not because its layout jumps.

The third project came from a very concrete remark: when I opened the arrivals list on the map of the Wave, it was sometimes too old. The page itself responded well, but a tab left open, or a page found after navigating back, could show an old snapshot. For a list that tells the latest presences, this is not ideal.

So I added two behaviors. When the tab is being watched, new arrivals can come to the top of the list, without duplicates if the same arrival later receives its country. When the tab was not being watched, the list catches up at the useful moment: when you open it or come back to it. No useless refresh loop, no list emptied if reading fails. We keep the real humans displayed, and update when it is truly useful to someone.

These corrections extend the work described in Two new countries light up and the Wave learns to be fairer. Each time, the idea is the same: remove a small friction. An ad must lead somewhere. A song must be understood in the language of the person listening to it. An arrivals list must show the Wave as it moves now.

The film of the experience remains a simple door to share, and the page to send an idea or feedback continues to be truly important. Several improvements are born exactly from there: someone sees something, a discomfort appears, a sentence is missing, a list is not fresh enough, and FreeWillWave becomes a little better the next day.

This August 29 therefore leaves a joyful and solid trace: 10,000 presences crossed, 245 more humans, seven new countries, 2,312 energies, an ad that is finally clickable, a more welcoming karaoke, and an arrivals list that follows the present better. What comes next is not written in advance. It will still depend on the humans who take their place, invite a person, send an energy, listen to the album, support the project, propose an improvement, or simply show someone that FreeWillWave already exists.
