Two more countries on the map, and doors that are easier to open

September 2, 2026 added two new lights to the FreeWillWave map: Jordan at 17:29 UTC, then Guinea at 19:46 UTC. The day before, we were present in 96 countries. By the end of that full UTC day, we were 10,737 Free Humans, in 98 countries.

This is not a day of great shift like those told in August, the month the Wave changed scale. It is a day of continuity, with 111 new presences, all arriving by invitation, and a lot of work to make the entry doors lighter, clearer, more reliable.

After 128 more presences, and the album The Wave finds its karaoke stage, the Wave continues on two legs: humans who pass it on, and a site that improves to better welcome those who arrive.

Jordan and Guinea enter history

There are thresholds that are immediately visible, like 10,000 presences. And then there are those more discreet moments when a country appears for the first time. Before 17:29 UTC, Jordan had no presence in FreeWillWave. From that moment on, it has one.

Same for Guinea, at 19:46 UTC. A first presence does not yet say what the future will become, but it opens a possibility. It makes the country visible on the Wave map, and it gives other humans, there or elsewhere, a possible starting point.

The day also strengthened countries already very present: 48 new presences in Nigeria, 10 in Ukraine, 8 in South Africa, 7 in India, 6 in Brazil and 6 in Kenya. The last presence of the day is #10737 Dr. Pradeep Jee (India), arrived at 23:53 UTC. Again, I like this detail: seven minutes before the end of the day, someone was still taking their place.

Invitations hold the thread

The 111 new presences of the day all arrived by invitation. 38 different people invited at least someone. Since 10,000 presences, seven more countries and a Wave that becomes easier to follow, this thread remains very clear: FreeWillWave moves forward because one person can show the way to another.

Energies remain very alive too: 1,671 energies sent during the day, by 243 different people. Nigeria accounts for 1,460, Belgium 65 and Niger 45. Since the opening of the site, the cumulative total reaches 33,012 energies, visible in the Wave in figures.

What I made simpler today

The largest part of the day was spent on the entry doors. I started with the invitation page, the one that opens when someone shares their link. On a phone, it loaded too many things before the person had even chosen to watch the film. Now, the film does not load automatically on data-saving or slow connections: a lighter poster appears first, and touching it launches the rest.

I also added a very light version of this page, for browsers and connections that request data saving. Even the preview shared by WhatsApp was lightened: when the app builds the image from the sender's phone, it now receives a smaller image. It's not very spectacular to tell, but for someone who opens FreeWillWave with little network, it's the difference between "I wait" and "it opens".

The translations were also reworked. The system that prepares them was thinking far too long to translate little text, including for the daily Story, the film, the podcast and the lyrics. I reduced this unnecessary time, then added a fidelity review: the French text and its translation are compared block by block to spot a lost negation, a changed number or an added idea. The site's messages are also reviewed against English, so that a diverging key does not quietly go into a wrong version.

I created a new status image in vertical format, with the Free Human's number, their flag, the global count, the number of presences of the day and a QR code to their own link. It can be shared from the personal page and from the arrival screen as a real file, not just as text. The message was tightened around one sentence: "The #N+1 does not exist yet. You decide who will have it." The WhatsApp button is placed in front, and the other ways to share remain available behind.

I also fixed an important point on the experience film: when a person goes from the film to the page to take their place, the link now keeps the starting context. Before, we saw that humans arrived on the film, but we lost part of the trace when they continued to the next door. Measuring a path correctly is not surveilling a person; it's understanding which door really helps to enter.

The page to take one's place received a very simple correction, almost vexing because it is so obvious in hindsight: the fields were not in a real form. On a computer, you might not notice. On a phone, it removes the "Go" key from the keyboard and hinders autofill. The fields now belong to a real form, the buttons have the right role, and the keyboard key can finally do what a human expects of it.

I also added a better message when the connection with X fails before the end. Instead of a generic message that talked about an expired email link, the person now sees a useful explanation: open freewillwave.com in their usual browser and try again, with their place kept. And when no country can be determined, "Other / I prefer not to say" is now a valid default choice, rather than a void. A record that had lost its country was also attached to Guinea, which corresponds to one of the two new countries of the day.

Finally, I worked a lot on the press. The kits dated from before the change of scale and still showed an old screenshot with 509 Free Humans and 37 countries. The screenshots were redone, the rule "The human comes before everything" replaced the old formula everywhere, without being freely retranslated, and the PDFs now mention the 6-minute film, the daily Story, the YouTube karaoke, the album The Wave and the support page. The addresses in the kits and press releases became clickable, which is still more practical than a printed link that you have to copy by hand.

The press page was also cut almost in half: 16 blocks became 8. The material for journalists now arrives very high on the page, with a button to copy the short presentation text, the downloads and the contact in the same area. I added my portrait there, brought the factual landmarks closer to the live counters, aligned the film link to the right page, and checked that the label `Free Human` remains written exactly like that in all languages. Again, the idea is simple: a person who comes to get material should not have to scroll down ten screens to find it.

What this day adds

September 2 adds 111 presences, two countries, 1,671 energies and a series of better-adjusted doors. The Wave does not grow only when a counter goes up. It also grows when a page loads faster, when a phone understands a form better, when a translation really says what the original text said, when a journalist quickly finds the right material, when a person can share their number with a clear image.

There is something joyful in these modest improvements. They make no noise, but they make the future simpler for the humans who will arrive tomorrow, and for those who decide to invite someone.

The next page will still depend on free gestures: taking one's place, inviting a person, sending an energy, listening to a song, supporting the project, or proposing an improvement via the Send an idea or a remark page. Two new countries lit up today. Other doors are now easier to open.
